Jesus’ view on women in the Bible challenges the cultural norms of His time, as we see from the first episode. Throughout His life and ministry, Jesus consistently honored, protected, and empowered women. This post walks you through several of those encounters, showing just how deeply Jesus valued women.
All through the lifetime of Jesus Christ, there are various instances recorded of Him relating to women. Never once do we see Him discriminate against them—even when society had scorned or rejected them. Need proof? Let’s explore some of those moments together.
Understanding Jesus’ View on Women in the Bible
The first woman Jesus is seen relating to in the Bible is Mary, His mother. At the Wedding in Cana, Jesus showed her deep respect. Though He initially expressed reluctance to perform a miracle, He obeyed her request and turned water into wine. Later, while suffering immense pain on the cross, He entrusted His beloved mother to one of His closest disciples—a clear sign of care and reverence.
In the case of the adulterous woman (John 8), Jesus’ view on women in the Bible becomes even more apparent. He refused to condemn her, even when others were ready to stone her. Instead, He gave her grace and a chance to live a transformed life. Similarly, in John 4:1–42, Jesus spoke with the Samaritan woman at the well—something a typical Jewish man would never have done. Yet He not only spoke with her but revealed His identity as the Messiah.
In my research, I’ve also come across several instructions where Jesus and the apostles taught men to love, honor, and care for their wives and mothers. While this article does not focus on those passages, it’s important to note that Jesus never encouraged the mistreatment or devaluation of women.
In fact, Ephesians 5:25 makes a stunning comparison: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” In Scripture, Jesus equates the woman (wife) with the church. We, as the church, are living proof of how much God loves, nurtures, and fulfills His promises to His bride. The church is precious to Jesus—so is the woman.
This brings me to one of the most profound scriptures: John 5:19 — “So Jesus explained, ‘I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does’” (NLT). This verse reveals that Jesus’ view on women in the Bible directly reflects God’s heart and character.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:
- Galatians 3:28: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
- 1 Corinthians 11:10–12: “In the Lord, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.”
